Week in Review

12-5-15
FRIDAY
*Early Release Professional Development Day*
Today we used chrome books to review Unit 2 learning targets and to increase or stretch our thinking.  We began by practicing multiplication facts using the new version.  We submitted a screenshot of the results via this website.  Then, we went to the Math 8 tab of this website to find today's links to our Unit 2 learning targets.  We reviewed each topic and then worked on some practice problems.  We took a screenshot of each part's results and pasted it into our copy of the links document.  For more information, please see the Math 8 tab.  Also, p. 368 #22-30 will be graded on Monday, so please have that completed by then.  If you have any questions, please comment below.  Thank you!

12-4-14
THURSDAY
We worked on the 3rd day of round 7 of the Big 10 Challenge.  Our quizzes were returned.  Students should fix their quizzes if they earned less than 9 out of the 10 points.  After that, we were introduced to our final learning target of the unit.  We learned how to compare and order numbers in scientific notation--the long way first.  We found that we really didn't have to change each number to its standard form to compare it to other numbers.  We learned that it is actually easier to compare the exponents.  The larger the exponent, the larger the number.  We then learned that if there was a tie and the exponents were equal, that then we could compare the front number of the scientific notation, and that would reveal which number was greater or lesser.  Our assignment was:  p. 368 #22-30.

12-3-14
WEDNESDAY
We worked on day 2 of round 7 of the Big 10 Challenge.  We then reviewed how we make numbers convert to scientific notation.  We call this converting standard form to scientific notation.  We then took a quiz over this learning target (Quiz 5).  Next, we discussed and reviewed what we knew about converting scientific notation to standard form.  We tried some practice problems and then we took Quiz 6.

12-2-14
TUESDAY
We began round 7 of the Big 10 Challenge.  We also received our Big 10 Quiz 6 and marked our progress in our growth data sheet.  Next we reviewed what we had learned about scientific notation by working out some of the problems from last week's assignment.  Finally, we corrected the assignment:  Reteaching & Practice 7-1 as well as p. 379 #23-32.  These 3 parts made up one large assignment worth 70 points.

12-1-14
MONDAY
We used chrome books today.  We went to the MATH 8 tab on this website and worked our way through the links on the document for each section of my math classes.  The focus was exponents and scientific notation.  Some of the links worked better than others, and they were adjusted as the day went along.  Students made a copy of their section's links and inserted screenshots of their results as they progressed through their lists.  We did not correct the homework from last Tuesday today, but we were reminded of it being due tomorrow.
