Friday we continued to work our way through the 6th round of Big 10. We did Day 2 problems. We corrected Wednesday's assignment, p.379 #1-14 after we discussed Big 10. We looked at more concepts that come up due to dividing powers and students practiced these new concepts. They did Practice 7-3 #1-24 (worksheet) (#1-8 had been done earlier this week.) Afterward, we went over the correct answers and then we took our dividing powers quiz, Quiz 4. Lastly, we got our assignment: Practice 7-2 #1-12 (worksheet) which is more practice with exponents. Next week we will learn about scientific notation.

Thursday we got to use the chrome books again. We practiced our multiplication facts and then worked on our Common Core State Standards (CCSS) using Buzz Math. Buzz Math is a free app the kids have attached to their Google accounts. It allows students to practice different problems related to a standard until they get it right. They may progress to different standards when they earn a star. We all really appreciate Buzz Math. It is self-paced and can be used any time, any where. There was no new assignment.

Wednesday we worked on Big 10 Round 6 Day 1. We reviewed multiplying powers, corrected our previous assignment from Tuesday, and then took a brief quiz regarding this learning target, Quiz 3. Students did a fabulous job! Almost every student earned a 90% or higher on this quiz. After the quiz, we began working with dividing powers. Students learned by discovering the short cut for themselves that in order to divide powers, we simply keep the base and subtract the exponents. Our assignment to practice this new concept was p. 379 #1-14
