Welcome to Mrs. Raven's blog. I will be posting routinely on this site to keep students and families updated on all that is going on in math class. I hope you all find this to be a valuable resource for 8th grade information. I will do my best to post useful links to classroom notes, assignments, etc. Please visit often and I appreciate any comments you may have.

UNIT 5
Unit 5 took us to the world of geometry. We reviewed graphing coordinate pairs, and then we looked at what different transformations do to shapes. The transformations we studied were translations (slides), reflections (flips), and rotations (spins). Then we transformed figures using dilations and found that figures could be made larger or smaller simply by multiplying their coordinates by a given number. Finally, we looked at congruence and similarity in geometric figures. We related these transformations to congruent figures and similar figures.
