TUESDAY through THURSDAY

THURSDAY
12-18-14

Today, we finalized our analysis of the Million Dollar Question Follow Up.  Eighth graders were pretty impressed with the magnitude of a simple idea about doubling a small number (2) every day for a couple of months.  The number really is "out of this world", as they found out by doing the mathematical comparisons.  This number made $30 million look like a minuscule amount, to say the least.  After our discussion, we got the chrome books out and practiced multiplication facts.  Finally, we played a couple of internet math games related to exponents.  The Follow Up worksheet is due tomorrow.

WEDNESDAY
12-17-14

Today, we worked on discovering how big our numbers were in the Million Dollar Question activity.  We worked on a Follow Up worksheet to compare our numbers to football fields, miles, the earth's circumference, and the distance to the moon.  It's a fascinating idea.  We used devices, computers, and calculators to answer the questions.

TUESDAY
12-16-14

Today we continued our look into the Million Dollar Question.  We had great discussion and analysis of the activity.  It was fun. :)
