Sample Post

I haven't used Blogger in a very long time as Google Sites has since become a lot more user friendly than it originally had been.

December 14, 2015

Last week we finished Unit 2, and students were tested on Thursday.  The results were FANTASTIC!  The class average was a B.  I'm very proud of their success.  This week is our last week of school for the year.  We are going to be starting our 3rd unit, which will take an even more in depth look at powers (exponents) and scientific notation.  We will be doing some operating on these expressions in Unit 3.  We will be concentrating this week on strengthening our basic math facts, as well as improving our math grades.  Friday is a half day, and we will be enjoying a movie and snacks.  Students are encouraged to bring in a snack item Friday to share with their class.  It should be a great day!  Happy holidays to all!

11-16-15

We have been studying powers heavily in Unit 2.  We have learned powers contain a base and an exponent.  We have learned what to do with zero and negative exponents.  Last week we learned how to multiply and divide powers that had the same base.  This week we will turn our attention to scientific notation.

10-27-15

Last week we finished our first unit:  Number Systems.  Today we begin Unit 2: Exponents and Scientific Notation.  Friday marked the end of the first marking period which means student-led conferences are upon us.  Student -led conferences are from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 28 and Thursday, October 29.  Yesterday we spent our day preparing portfolios of students' work for conferences.  It's a busy week, to be sure.

10-15-15

We've begun the 4th learning target of Unit 1.  There are 5 learning targets, so we'll be wrapping up our number systems unit very soon.  Check out the Math 8 page for links to work and notes.

Student-led conferences are October 28th and 29th.  There was a blue sheet with details regarding conferences sent home on Tuesday.  Wednesday students were given information about selling Mohawk cards.  We will be selling cards for $10 from now until October 30th.  All profits go to the 8th grade class and they help to fund our field trip(s).  We will be entering students who sell 2 cards into a drawing for cash prizes.  Students will get entered in the drawing each time they sell 2 cards.

October 6, 2015

Yesterday we reviewed rational and irrational numbers to improve understanding.  Today we will be finishing MAP testing and working on Chromebooks.  See the Math 8 page on this website under 10-6-15 to see what we worked on.  And a big CONGRATULATIONS to our 8th graders who won the spirit week competition in the middle school. Way to pull out a victory and thanks to all who donated your coins!

Homecoming Week

10/2/15

Spirit week has been a lot of fun so far.  Even better, the 8th graders are in first place for spirit points.  Today is a big day to determine who has the most school spirit at MSMS.  Go 8th Grade!

We've also been working on Unit 1 and learning what rational and irrational numbers are.  Our assignment was:
p. 224 #21-30
